About This Call
PrintAustin invites submissions for the 5th annual juried international exhibition "The Contemporary Print," held at O2 Gallery at Flatbed Press Headquarters in Austin, Texas from January 20 to February 18, 2018. The exhibition surveys traditions and innovations in contemporary printmaking. While non-traditional or digital output is accepted as a print element, submissions must utilize traditional print media as the primary technique, including lithography, relief, intaglio, silkscreen, photo polymer plate (SolarPlates), and monotype. Solely digital and photographic prints are not eligible.
Eligibility is open to international artists 18 years or older. Submissions may include 2-D or 3-D work, including ceramics, sculpture, mixed media, and artists' books that use printmaking as the sole or major technique. Work cannot exceed 72 inches in any direction. Works previously exhibited in past "The Contemporary Print" exhibitions are not eligible. Submit 3-10 images in JPEG format, minimum 1920 pixels on the longest side, 72 ppi/dpi resolution, maximum 5 MB file size. Entry fee is $35 for up to 3 entries; $10 for each additional entry. Payment via PayPal, check, or credit card must be received by November 1, 2017.
Juror is Dr. Paul Laidler, Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Fine Print Research and Senior Lecturer in BA Illustration/MA Multidisciplinary Printmaking at University of the West England, Bristol, United Kingdom. Awards include: PrintAustin Award ($500), Gamblin Award ($200 plus $200 gift certificate), Awagami Paper Award ($100 plus $250 of Japanese washi paper), and Dick Blick Award ($150 gift certificate). Email notifications will be sent by December 1, 2017. Artwork must be shipped by December 10-15, 2017. Opening reception is January 20, 6-8 p.m. Artist commission is 70%; gallery and PrintAustin split 30%. Contact [email protected] with questions.
