About This Call
The Bureau of Queer Art is a social media and print magazine for contemporary Queer and Allied artists to explore representation, identity, and themes of outsiderness. The organization is seeking artists to feature in the Autumn 2023 issue and coinciding exhibition. Selected artists will receive either a feature (1-3 pages with write-up and pictorial) or a full article (3-6 pages with write-up, interview, and full pictorial spread) in the physical publication. Select artists will also be interviewed for the podcast available on all podcast platforms. Featured artists receive a gratis copy of the issue. The Autumn 2023 Issue will be available for sale on Amazon, Blurb, the organization's website, and gallery locations.
Selected artists will participate in a 3-month online exclusive exhibition listed on the website and ARTSY sales platform. A virtual opening reception will feature a panel discussion moderated by The Bureau of Queer Art Director, with participating artists and viewers encouraged to post questions and comments. The exhibition reaches an international audience through ARTSY, which receives 2.2 million unique visitors monthly from 130+ countries. A physical gallery component is housed at Art Gallery Studios in Colonia Juárez, Mexico City, a 1200 sqft space curated by Micheal Swank.
Entry fee is $45 for 5 images; additional images cost $5 each (maximum 20 images total). Artists must submit 5-20 images along with biography and artist statement. All work must be original, unsold, and owned solely by the artist. Selected artwork must remain available for sale for the exhibition's duration. Gallery retains 50% commission on all sales. Sales remittance to artists is provided within 5-7 business days after payment is received. Early consideration deadline is September 1, 2023. Notification of selected artists occurs October 15, with publication release and exhibition opening October 27. Exhibition closes January 27, 2024. Contact [email protected] for inquiries.
