About This Call
The Decatur Arts Alliance presents the seventh edition of the juried exhibition of artists' books, The Book as Art, August 9–September 27, 2019, at the Decatur Branch of the DeKalb County Public Library. The show's dates encompass the AJC-Decatur Book Festival, which takes place each Labor Day weekend throughout the City of Decatur. The DAA will sponsor a festive opening and juror's talk on Friday, August 23, 2019. The exhibition location is just off the Decatur Square, ideally accessible to the more than 85,000 attendees at the Festival as well as to visitors throughout the run of the show.
The exhibition seeks beautifully made volumes, sculptural and conceptual interpretations, and one-of-a-kind approaches to the book format, including wall-hung interpretations. Artists are invited to enter original or limited edition original or altered books. Entries will be open April 8 – May 30, 2019 on callforentry.org. Up to three pieces may be entered for a $30.00 fee. Work samples must include 1–5 images and optionally 1 video. Notification of acceptance will be made via email no later than July 1, 2019.
Awards include First Place ($1,000), Second Place ($700), Third Place ($500), and Merit Award ($100). An online catalogue is anticipated. Sales are encouraged, with the DAA collecting a 25% commission on all artwork sold. Work will be insured for the duration of the exhibition. No work accepted may be withdrawn before the close of the exhibition. The three jurors are Denise Bookwalter, Mari Eckstein Gower, and Andrew Huot. Several events are planned throughout the run of the show, including a White Glove Night connected to the closing party.
