The Book as Art V.11: Myth & Magic

The Book as Art V.11: Myth & Magic is the eleventh edition of an art show celebrating books as objects that survive in an increasingly digital world. The exhibition theme explores myths, magic, and storytelling—foundational narratives that bridge the secular and spiritual and merge the factual with the fantastical. Artists are challenged to interpret classical myths and tales, explore modern myths and myth-making, and create new magical narratives through the book format.

The exhibition seeks to showcase beautifully made volumes, sculptural and conceptual interpretations, and one-of-a-kind approaches to the book format, including wall-hung interpretations. The show runs September 7 - October 30, 2023, in Decatur, Georgia. Entry deadline is June 18, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Entry fee is $30 for up to three submissions. Artists may submit 1-5 images and up to 1 video per entry (6 total samples maximum). International artists are eligible.

Awards: First Place $1,000, Second Place $700, Third Place $500. Sales are encouraged with the Decatur Arts Alliance collecting a 25% commission on all artwork sold.
