About This Call

The Book as Art V.10: Transformation is the tenth edition of an art show celebrating books as objects that survive in an increasingly digital world. The exhibition invites artists to explore the concept of transformation—how the world, society, nature, and humanity are transformed by reading, literature, and art. The series seeks to showcase beautifully made volumes, sculptural and conceptual interpretations, and one-of-a-kind approaches to the book format, including wall-hung interpretations.

Entry fee is $30.00 for up to three artworks, with submissions requiring 1-5 images and up to 1 video per work. International artists are welcome to submit. Awards include First Place ($1000), Second Place ($700), Third Place ($500), the Emory University Stuart A. Rose Manuscript, Archive & Rare Book Library Purchase Prize (up to $2000), and the Dorothy Moye Memorial Award (TBA). Jurors include Georgia Deal, Jerushia Graham, and Joseph Lappie.

Sales are encouraged, with the Decatur Arts Alliance collecting a 25% commission on all artwork sold. Artists must price their work and include the commission in the listed price; Georgia sales tax will be added at point of sale. Several events are planned throughout the exhibition, including virtual tours, artist talks, and discussions. Exhibiting artists are encouraged to volunteer for these opportunities. The exhibition is held at the Decatur Branch of the DeKalb County Public Library and Georgia Center for the Book, located at 215 Sycamore Street, Decatur, Georgia 30030.
