About This Call

The Book as Art: Expanding the Limits is a juried exhibition presented by the Decatur Arts Alliance and The Art Institute of Atlanta-Decatur, an event of the 2014 AJC-Decatur Book Festival. The exhibition runs July 18–September 19, 2014, with a gala opening on Thursday, August 28, 2014. The gallery is located on the Decatur Square in the heart of the Festival grounds, accessible to more than 85,000 Festival attendees.

Artists are invited to submit original or limited edition artists' books in any form—from handmade and tactile to sculptural and monumental. The exhibition welcomes beautifully made volumes, sculptural interpretations, one-of-a-kind approaches to the book format, and interpretations designed to hang from the gallery wall. Collaborative projects are eligible. Entries will be juried by Alexander Campos (executive director and curator of the Center for Book Arts in New York), Mary Murphy (curator of the Artist's Book Collection at SCAD), and Barbara Tetenbaum (visual artist and professor at Oregon College of Art and Craft).

Entry fee is $30.00 for up to three items, with up to five images per item. All entries must be submitted digitally through www.callforentry.org by midnight MST on May 21, 2014. Notification of acceptance will be made via email no later than June 18, 2014. Awards include First Place ($1,000), Second Place ($700), Third Place ($500), and Merit Award ($100). The DAA handles all sales and collects a 25% commission on artwork sold. Work will be insured for the duration of the exhibition. Artists are advised to arrange their own shipping insurance. No work accepted may be withdrawn before the close of the exhibition.
