About This Call
The Decatur Arts Alliance invites artists to submit entries to an inaugural juried exhibition celebrating the book form. Artists' books take many forms—from handmade and tactile to linear and informative; abstract and questioning to sculptural and monumental. Artists who observe this world and interpret the idea of the book are invited to participate.
The exhibition will run July 19–September 20, 2013, in the gallery at The Art Institute of Atlanta-Decatur, located on Decatur Square in the heart of the AJC Decatur Book Festival grounds. The festival, held August 30–September 1, 2013, is the largest independent book festival in the country and is expected to draw 75,000 attendees. An opening reception will be held Thursday, August 29.
Artists may submit up to three original or limited edition artists' books for a $25 entry fee. Submissions must include up to five images per work (including closed and open views for standard book format), a brief statement (75 words maximum), and presentation/installation requirements. Entries are accepted online at callforentry.org from March 25–June 3, 2013, with a deadline of 11:59 p.m. MDT on June 3. Notification of acceptance will be made by email no later than July 1. Jurors are Brian Dettmer (Atlanta, GA), Jerushia Graham (Jonesboro, GA), and Beck Whitehead (San Antonio, TX). Awards include: First Place $1,000, Second Place $700, Third Place $500, and Merit Award $100. The DAA handles all sales and collects a 25% commission. Work will be insured during the exhibition. For questions, contact [email protected] or 404.371.9583.
