The Avenue Concept Call For Public Sculpture 2020

The Avenue Concept invites submissions for its 2020 public sculpture exhibition held in Providence, Rhode Island. Artwork will be on view for up to one year on one of the Avenue Concept's prominently located sculpture pads throughout Downtown Providence. Prior years have seen international artists as well as artists from New England and across the country. Thousands of viewers see the artwork daily, and many pieces have been placed in other exhibitions after leaving Providence or have sold.

This call seeks contemporary sculpture that already exists and is ready for installation, not proposals or sketches. Scale can vary from human scale (5' to 8') to larger works around 20 feet tall. Artwork must have a footprint and anchor pattern fitting within a 6' x 6' square and must be fully completed, installation ready, and built to withstand four seasons of outdoor display in New England. Artists and artwork must be located within 200 miles of Providence, Rhode Island. Eligibility is open to sculptors in the Northeast within 200 miles of Providence.

Selected artists receive a $1,500 lease payment, professional transportation and installation by The Avenue Concept, liability insurance for transportation and installation, professional photography and documentation, promotion through the Avenue Concept's website and social media, inclusion in the digital archive and annual art periodical, placement on Providence art maps and walking tours, and an informational plaque with QR code. Unless otherwise indicated, artwork is available for purchase with The Avenue Concept taking 30% commission and the artist receiving 70%. The application fee is $15 per artwork with a maximum of 3 submissions per artist. Entries must be submitted by January 19, 2020, with notifications by February 28, 2020. Installation will occur between spring and mid-summer 2020.
