The Artistry of Faith & Culture

The Dallas Arboretum will host The Artistry of Faith and Culture exhibition from November 9, 2022 to December 31, 2022 at the DeGolyer Estate. Texas Jewish Arts Association will exhibit diverse faiths and cultures, specifically relating to Hanukkah and the Jewish Sabbath. The call for entry includes artwork, musical audio files, and heirloom items in 3D, 2D, Judaica art, and textiles such as table linens, embroidery, challah covers, kiddush cups, Shabbat candlesticks, glass artifacts, menorahs, dreidels, and tapestries. Items can be heirlooms or artwork passed down to family members. If a story, family name, or anecdote is attached, it can be accessed via a QR code displayed near the item. Items do not have to be created by the applicant personally but must be high caliber and exhibit-worthy.

The exhibition is open to all artists and collectors 18 years and older who reside in Texas. The non-refundable entry fee for a maximum of five pieces is $35 for non-members and $25 for Texas Jewish Arts Association members. Artwork and sculptures may be offered for sale at the artist's discretion. Sales are conducted directly between artist and buyer, with all proceeds going to the artist. Neither the Dallas Arboretum nor other organizations receive a commission.

Artwork will be curated by the Dallas Arboretum based on fit within allotted spaces and other criteria at the Arboretum's discretion. The Dallas Arboretum reserves the right to refuse any work. Artwork cannot display nudity or profanity. For 2-D works: dimensions must fit gallery frame canvas or framed regular canvas wired for hanging (no sawtooth hooks), maximum 30 lbs. For 3-D works: must fit available pedestals (2' x 3' base), maximum 30 lbs (larger works discussed case by case). Load-in is October 26-28, 2022, 9 am-5 pm (heavy items 7-8:45 am only). Load-out is January 4-6, 2023, 9 am-5 pm. All artwork must be picked up by the artist; failure to do so may result in a $50 daily storage fee.
