About This Call
The Artist and the Garden invites artists to submit contemporary interpretations of the relationship between artists and gardens. This timeless theme has been expressed throughout art history in many styles—from Monet's impressionist gardens to Joan Mitchell's abstract approach, Frida Kahlo's portraiture combined with jungle imagery, and the hyper-realism of the Dutch Masters. All mediums are accepted (2D and 3D, except video and installations).
Core Art Space invites all artists 18 or older to submit up to 3 works electronically by Tuesday, April 15, 2025, with a $35 entry fee. Work must be no larger than 48 inches on its longest side, including frame. Judging will be based on overall impact, content, composition, mastery of technique, creativity, and craftsmanship. The juror is Susan T. Fisher, who has taught botanical art for over 25 years and created curriculum at Denver Botanic Gardens and the Art Institute at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum.
Accepted work must arrive at Core Art Space by Friday, May 2, 2025. The exhibition runs Friday, May 9 through Sunday, May 25, 2025, with an artist reception on Friday, May 9 from 5:00-9:00 pm. Notification of acceptance will be sent on or before April 20, 2025. Core charges a 30% commission plus tax on sold work, with payment rebated to the artist within 45 days of the show's close. Artists are responsible for their own insurance.
