About This Call
The Department of Art at Mississippi State University invites artists eighteen years of age or older residing in the United States to submit work for consideration for a national juried exhibition titled The Art of Hope. Artists working in 2D and 3D media (ceramic, drawing, graphic design, painting, photography, printmaking, and sculpture) are eligible to apply. The exhibition seeks work conveying artists' vision for the future in response to current events such as environmental change, social issues, political turmoil, or personal suffering.
Artists may submit up to 3 individual works, with one image per work required. All 2D and 3D media are eligible; however, due to installation limitations, only wall-based and freestanding work will be considered. No video submissions. Size restrictions apply: 2D and 3D hanging artwork (including frame or supports) should measure within a 48" x 48" space; 3D freestanding artwork should be no greater than 36" tall or 36" wide with a weight limit of 45 pounds. The entry fee is $35.00, with a deadline of November 9, 2019. Artwork selection will be based on individual pieces submitted, and submission does not guarantee selection.
If accepted, artists are responsible for all packing and shipping costs to and from the MSU Department of Art Galleries, 415 Barr Avenue, 102 Freeman Hall, Mississippi State, MS 39762. Artwork must arrive by 5pm on January 10, 2020, ready-to-hang with no sawtooth hangers or glass frames. All pieces must be labeled with artist name, title, year, and medium. The exhibition runs January 20 – February 28, 2020, with a reception on January 31, 2020. A cash prize of $500 will be awarded to the Best in Show winner. John Sabraw, a Professor of Art at Ohio University, serves as the invited juror.
