The Absence of Color Photo Competition

This photo competition recognizes amateur and professional photographers for their black and white, grayscale, sepia, and monochromatic photos. Open to photographers from all over the world, selected works will be placed in an online gallery for exhibition and winners will be awarded cash prizes.

The competition offers two divisions: amateur and professional. An amateur photographer is defined as one who takes photos as a hobby and not for a primary source of income. A professional is a photographer whose main source of income is from selling photography. Professionals and amateurs will be judged separately. This is an open theme competition. Images must be black and white, grayscale, sepia, or monotone in JPG format, with a minimum of 1200 pixels on the longest side and maximum file size of 5MB. Photos may be produced from traditional analog film cameras, mirrorless, DSLR, mobile phones, or other sources, with minor adjustments acceptable. All entries must be original work by the artist with no signatures, names, logos, watermarks, frames, or borders.

Entry fee is $35 for 1-4 entries. Payment is non-refundable and does not guarantee acceptance, but does guarantee the entry will be judged. Awards include Best of Show Professional Photo and Best of Show Amateur Photo, each receiving $150 plus one free entry into a future call. For every 100 entries registered, the studio will add $50 extra to the prize money to be split between the two class winners. Multiple entries will be juried into the gallery, with select entries awarded Honorable Mentions and free entries into future calls ($35 value). Prize money will be sent via PayPal to the email address on file. Entries may be made from July 18 - September 18, 2023. Entries will be juried September 18-19, 2023, with notifications emailed on or before September 19, 2023. Gallery selections will display beginning September 20, 2023. All entries are submitted via the CaFÉ Call for Entry platform.
