About This Call
The Center for American Marine Art invites submissions for this exhibition to gather and recognize important new contributions to the field of contemporary marine art from around the world, stimulate discussion of aesthetic and scholarly standards among marine artists and connoisseurs, and support the Center's mission.
Eligible works include paintings, drawings, sculpture, or scratch-built ship models executed within the last two years whose theme relates to past or contemporary maritime experience. This may include images of ships, yachts, coastal waterways, marshes and beaches, marine wildlife in their natural habitat, and working boats and people whose lives depend on the sea. Entries must be executed by a living artist and not previously exhibited elsewhere. Up to four works may be submitted. Entry fees are $45.00 for the first entry and $15 each for up to three additional entries.
Submissions must include high-quality JPEG images (at least 1500 pixels on the longest edge, maximum 30 MB file size), a brief artist biography in essay format, and a written description in English of each work not exceeding 150 words. For sculpture, two images of each work are required. Paintings, drawings, and graphics must not exceed 90 inches combined length and width including frame. Sculpture must not exceed 90 inches combined length and width with a maximum weight of 50 lbs. All ship models must be in a display case. Works must be professionally framed and wired for hanging, with water medium works requiring paper-backing and museum quality or acid-free materials mandatory. Accepted works remain on consignment with the Center for sale at the retail price listed with a 50% commission. The Center will insure artwork for 50% of the retail value from delivery until return or sale. Entry deadline is August 15, 2024. For questions, contact Nick Raposo at [email protected].
