About This Call

The 3rd Annual North Carolina Statewide Juried Pastel Exhibition, titled "On Common Ground: 2014 - Pastel Paintings From the Mountains to the Sea," will be held at The Cornwell Center in Charlotte, NC from May 1-30, 2014. The exhibition is presented by The Piedmont Pastel Society in conjunction with the Pastel Society of North Carolina and the Appalachian Pastel Society.

Eligibility is open only to current members of at least one of the three North Carolina Pastel Societies who are 18 years or older and residing in the United States. All paintings must be the artist's original work and at least 80% soft/dry pastels (no oil pastels or nude paintings). Paintings done in a school, school-monitored studio, or under instructor supervision, or copied from published photographs are not eligible. Maximum size is 42" on the longest dimension including frame. Artwork must be securely framed with glass or Plexiglas and ready to hang. Paintings previously accepted to a NC Statewide Pastel Exhibition cannot be resubmitted. Entry fee is $35.00 for up to 3 submitted images; a maximum of 2 paintings per artist will be accepted into the exhibition. Entries are digital only via CaFÉ online at www.callforentry.org. Image files must be JPEG format, no smaller than 1920 pixels on the longest side, 72 ppi/dpi resolution, and 3 MB maximum. An artist statement of no more than 300 words is required.

The judge of selections and awards is Jerald Melberg, national/international art critic and gallery owner. Awards total $5,000+ in cash and merchandise, including a Best-in-Show award of $1,000 cash. Notification of accepted artwork will be sent by email on March 31. Accepted artwork must be delivered April 22-24 (shipped) or April 28 (hand-delivered). A reception and awards ceremony will be held May 9, 6-8:30pm. All artwork must be for sale; The Cornwell Center retains a 25% commission on sales. Unsold artwork may be picked up May 31, 10am-4pm, with a $10 daily storage fee charged for paintings not picked up. Checks for sold paintings will be mailed within 30 days of the exhibition closing.
