Text/Message Online Exhibition

Shoebox Arts invites artists to submit work for a national open call online exhibition curated by Kristine Schomaker. The exhibition runs June 3-24, 2023, at Shoebox Projects, an alternative art space supporting artists through curator opportunities, residencies, representation, and exhibitions.

This call focuses on how text is used in fine art across all media—painting, sculpture, mixed media, video, digital, and intermedia. Text can add poetic layers, humor, challenge societal assumptions, or express beliefs. Submissions should address the "Text/Message" concept in some way. 2D artworks may include screen grabs from moving imagery but will be juried as static images. For full video consideration, submit as video (published via Vimeo or YouTube links only). Work requiring specialized equipment will not be considered.

Artists may submit up to 3 pieces for a $15 submission fee. Up to 7 additional images (for a total of 10) may be submitted for $5 each. All fine arts visual media are considered. There are no size limitations. The first place award is an online solo show at Shoebox Projects (2023). All sales are handled directly by the artist; the gallery takes no commission. Accepted artists will be announced May 26, 2023. An opening reception and artist talk via Zoom will be held June 3, 2023, from 3-5pm PST. Open to US residents, age 18 and older.
