About This Call
TEXAS NATIONAL 2011 is an annual art competition and exhibition hosted by the School of Art in the College of Fine Arts at Stephen F. Austin State University. The exhibition runs April 9 - May 21, 2011 at the Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House, 329 E. Main St., Nacogdoches, TX. The juror for 2011 is James Drake, an internationally acclaimed artist whose work has been included in the Venice Biennale and Whitney Biennial. His work is held in the permanent collections of over thirty museums including the Brooklyn Museum of Art, the Corcoran Gallery, and the Whitney Museum of Art.
The competition is open to all artists working in the United States. Works may be of any medium except video or performance. All works must be original and completed in the past two years. No previously submitted works will be accepted. Two-dimensional works cannot exceed 48" in height or width including frame. Three-dimensional works cannot exceed 60" in height, 24" in width, and 24" in depth. Each crated or packaged work must not exceed 50 lbs. Entry fee is $35 for up to three digital images of up to three works. Additional images may be submitted for $5 each. Submissions are accepted through the CaFÉ website. Mailed payments via personal check or money order must be postmarked no later than February 1, 2011 and sent to TEXAS NATIONAL, P.O. Box 13041, SFA Station, Nacogdoches, TX 75962-3041.
Awards are 1st - $2,000; 2nd - $1,000; 3rd - $500; and Honorable Mentions. Juror's choices will be announced via email, the CaFÉ website, and USPS mail during the first week of March and no later than March 11, 2011. Accepted works must be shipped at the artist's expense and arrive by April 1, 2011. Return shipment costs will be paid by TEXAS NATIONAL. The SFA Galleries maintain high security with a guard always present during gallery hours and facilitate sales with no commission.
