Texas National 2009

TEXAS NATIONAL 2009 is an annual art competition and exhibition hosted by the School of Art in the College of Fine Arts at Stephen F. Austin State University. The exhibition runs April 4 - May 17, 2009 at the Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House, 329 E. Main St., Nacogdoches, TX. The 2009 juror is Mel Chin, an internationally recognized artist known for creating artworks in a broad range of media and scale, including objects, temporary installations, and permanent public artworks.

The competition is open to all artists working in the United States. Works may be of any medium except video or performance, and must be original and completed in the past two years. No previously submitted works will be accepted. Two-dimensional works cannot exceed 48" in height or width including frame. Three-dimensional works cannot exceed 60" in height, 24" in width, and 24" in depth. Each crated or packaged work must not exceed 50 lbs.

Entry consists of submitting up to three digital images of up to three works for $35 per entry, with additional entries at $5 each. Payments are accepted through the SFA Store website via credit card or electronic check, or by mail (personal checks or money orders payable to TEXAS NATIONAL, postmarked no later than January 26, 2009). Awards include 1st - $3000, 2nd - $1000, 3rd - $500, and Honorable Mentions. An illustrated catalog will be published. Accepted works must be shipped at the artist's expense and arrive prior to March 23, 2009. Return shipment will be paid by TEXAS NATIONAL if shipped via FedEx.
