About This Call
Teton County Parks & Recreation seeks an artist or artist team to create one or more public art projects for the new Community Wellness Center in Jackson, Wyoming. The artwork should welcome visitors, celebrate the benefits of living an active and healthy lifestyle, inspire physical activity, and create a sense of community wellbeing and connectedness.
Identified locations for artwork include the main interior entrance, hall wall leading to the climbing gym, north stairwell 2-story window area, and 2nd floor wall along the running/walking track. Artwork must be made of durable lightweight media requiring little to no maintenance aside from annual cleaning. Artwork should be site-specific, properly scaled to the architecture, and able to be touched if within touching distance. The building serves users of all ages and abilities, and artwork should inspire and engage a wide range of ages, backgrounds, and abilities. If proposing a mural, professional grade materials and a protective clear coat are required.
The selection process involves three phases: Concept Design (1-3 artists receive $1,000 stipend to develop detailed conceptual proposals), Final Design ($15,000 fee to create final design, adjust based on stakeholder input and engineering review, and develop construction drawings approved by a Wyoming Licensed engineer), and Commission ($80,000 fee to cover fabrication, materials, shipping, contract labor, installation, insurance, travel expenses, final documentation, maintenance plans, and incidental expenses). One artist may propose more than one project within the budget. The artwork will be owned, insured, and maintained by TCP&R. Artists are responsible for delivering proposed artwork within budget with no funds available for project overruns. Submissions require 6 images. National eligibility.
