About This Call
Teton County Library is seeking an artist or artist team to create and install a new site-specific work for the lobby. The library is currently being expanded and remodeled as part of a voter-approved Specific Purpose Excise Tax. The public art project will be funded through donations to the Teton County Library Foundation.
The artwork will be installed in the entry lobby, which features high ceilings, concrete floors, and ample wall space. The entrance is 17'-6" wide, 86'-0" long, and 24'-0" tall at the window walls, dropping to a ceiling height of 21'-0" over the majority of the space. The walls are finished with dark wood paneling to door head height, glass entry doors, and drywall above. A successful proposal will address the library's goals and integrate well with the architecture, design, scale, and physical space of the entry. Installations should require little to no maintenance and be suitable for high traffic areas and viewing by children. Experience creating large-scale installations for public space is desired but not required.
The artist will be responsible for installation, which will take place over 1-2 days. The artist must submit technical drawings approved by a structural engineer and meet all IBC requirements for Teton County. The artist may hire contract labor and professional installers as needed, with costs covered by the stipend. The selected artist should be prepared to refine their conceptual design and work with the design team, including the library director, library facilities manager, architect, and general contractor. Experience with LEED design principles, sustainable practices, and repurposed materials is desired but not mandatory. There are no geographic limitations.
