About This Call

The Broward Cultural Council Public Art & Design Program is seeking to commission a professional artist or team of artists to create an original integrated terrazzo floor design artwork for Terminal 3 at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

The project area is the pre-security main circulation corridor on the Departures Level of Terminal 3, approximately 65,000 square feet. The selected artist or team must create an original terrazzo floor design that visually aids with traffic circulation and way finding, and provides focal/meeting points. The design must be reflective of the region, visually pleasing, and create a sense of place. Non-terrazzo artwork inserts may be considered if they are durable, able to withstand high traffic, and require little or no maintenance. Artists must work closely with airport staff and project consultant teams to integrate the art, considering design and construction documents, the Airport Terminals Interior Clarification Plan, and ADA Accessibility Standards.

The total project budget is $450,000, including all costs for research, design, materials, fabrication, permits, installation, insurance, and transportation. The project is open to professional artists with experience designing and installing terrazzo floors in high traffic/commercial settings who can work effectively within an aggressive timeline. The anticipated schedule includes artist selection in October 2011, design completion by January 2012, and installation from May to October 2012. The commissioned artist may be required to work with a pre-qualified artist from the Allied Artists Program roster. Applications must be submitted via CaFÉ at www.CallForEntry.org and include a letter of interest, professional résumé, 10 digital images of recent work, and an annotated image list. Contact: Christina Roldan, (954) 357-8542, [email protected].
