Tephra ICA Arts Festival 2026

The Tephra ICA Arts Festival is celebrating 35 years as a competitive, juried event consistently rated as one of the best outdoor art festivals in the country. Taking place at Reston Town Center, the Festival attracts patrons and collectors from the Washington, DC metropolitan region and beyond, with 2025 seeing a record 40,000+ attendees. The event is produced by Tephra Institute of Contemporary Art, a 501c3 non-profit with a 50-year history in promoting innovative contemporary art, and no commission is collected on artwork sold.

New this year is the Evolving Craft at 250 program, recognizing the 250th Anniversary of the United States by amplifying contemporary artists working in the legacy of American craft traditions. Artists in any medium can nominate themselves by providing a statement on how their work connects to, preserves, or innovates on American craft traditions. Participants receive special recognition through an audio guide, specialized booth signage, and eligibility for the Evolving Craft at 250 Award.

Application fees range from $45 (Early Bird: October 10-23) to $65 (Late: January 3-6, 2026). Artists must submit four high-resolution artwork images and one booth image, plus an artist statement and description of materials and techniques. The Festival offers $5,000 in cash awards, plus the new Judith Forst People's Choice Award, artist amenities including free parking, 24/7 security, and complimentary Award Breakfast tickets. Applications are accepted only through Zapplication, and artists must be 18 years or older with work created within the last five years.
