About This Call
The City of Santa Clarita is seeking artist(s) for its Temporary Public Art program. Two selected sculptural pieces will be located on concrete pads along the trail system and displayed on temporary loan for three years, creating a rotating collection of public art. The budget for this project is $5,000 per artist, with an additional $1,500 provided to cover required three-year insurance costs.
Sculptures must be original designs suitable for viewing by all ages and may not be used for advertisement or to promote business, product, or viewpoint. Designs must not include any breach of intellectual property, trademarks, brands, or images of drugs. Sculptures can be of any medium but must be constructed of durable materials able to withstand harsh desert weather conditions (high winds and extreme temperatures). Sculptures must fit on a pre-determined concrete pad measuring 96" by 96" with usable corner-to-corner space of 72" by 72". Height must be no less than 6' and no more than 15' excluding the base, and weight must not exceed 3,000 pounds. Power is not available onsite; if required, a solar component is suggested.
Artists are responsible for delivery, pick-up, installation drawings approved by a California licensed engineer, a maintenance guide, all design and fabrication expenses, transportation, installation, insurance costs, travel, and hotel accommodations. Sculptures must be designed with tabs or anchorage devices to secure artwork to concrete pads without altering the pads. The City will collect a 25% commission on artwork sold during the three-year period. Application deadline is November 30, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. PST. Selected artists will be notified in February 2022. Artists must be 18 years or older with a US mailing address and must submit a W-9.
