About This Call
Local Edition Creative is seeking five self-standing sculpture installations for the Mare Island Artyard, a public art exhibition on Mare Island in the San Francisco Bay Area. Selected artworks will be on public display from May 15, 2025 through May 13, 2026 and will receive a stipend between $5,000-$10,000 depending on size and quality. The display area is located along the Napa River waterfront on asphalt, open to the public 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM daily. Local Edition will provide heavy equipment for installation and deinstallation, including crane and VR forklift with skilled operators. Artists are responsible for their own sculpture assembly team.
Artwork must already be built and suitable for extended outdoor display in a public space. Pieces must be large-scale, self-standing, and designed for daytime viewing. All works must withstand extreme weather conditions including hot summers and cold, wet winters. Pieces requiring ground anchoring will not be considered due to environmental and safety limitations. Some structures may require stamped engineering drawings from a certified engineer. Artists must commit to keeping their installation on display for the full 12-month period.
Applications must include a minimum of 3 clear, recent images of the artwork, artist bio, artwork description, medium, dimensions, technical specifications, and a construction overview addressing durability and public safety. The application deadline is February 21, 2025, with rolling submissions encouraged. Finalists will be notified by March 17, 2025. Selected artists must provide a signed agreement and W9 form.
