About This Call
Scottsdale Public Art seeks proposals for a temporary public art installation to be placed in or above the Arizona Canal in the Scottsdale Waterfront area. The installation will be on view from November 2017 through February 2018 and will be part of Canal Convergence │ Water + Art + Light 2018. The artwork will be located between Scottsdale Rd and Marshall Way Bridge at the Scottsdale Waterfront.
Eligibility is open to all local, national, and international artists, including individuals and collectives/groups/teams. Budget available is up to $70,000 USD. Artists must submit a proposal narrative describing the initial design concept, dimensions, technical details (floatation or suspension), and how the artwork relates to the Scottsdale Waterfront, including potential materials, fabrication methods, installation needs, timeline, and itemized budget breakdown. Visual materials must include sketches, renderings, plan drawings, photos of models, video narratives and/or presentations of the proposal, as well as images of previous or existing work. Submissions must include 4-6 images total. Up to 2 applications per artist or artist team will be considered.
Projects must have an equally strong day and night presence. Community participation and light interactive pieces are encouraged. It is preferred but not required that artists proposing installations in the canal demonstrate previous experience installing in water. Artists proposing suspended installations will need to contract a structural engineer. Light, video, or suspended installations may use the surrounding infrastructure and architecture. If the selected artist proposes a floating installation, a full-scale prototype must be built and tested in moving waters prior to installation. Solar power is encouraged. Questions should be directed to Andrea Teutli, Assistant Director at Scottsdale Public Art at [email protected].
