About This Call
The City of Napa is seeking a qualified artist or artist team to design temporary fence artwork for a prominent, high-traffic location in Downtown Napa. This Request for Proposals is open to California residents in Napa, Sonoma, Solano, Marin, Contra Costa, San Francisco, Alameda, San Mateo, and Santa Clara counties, and is open to all backgrounds and cultures. The City of Napa encourages artists who identify as Black, Indigenous, People of Color, women, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, and other marginalized groups to apply.
The artwork will be a 2D piece (painting, illustration, or photography) to be digitally reproduced and printed onto fence mesh screen material covering a chain link construction fence surrounding a historic post office at 1351 Second Street, Napa, CA. The artwork area measures 234 feet by 71 inches. Artists must provide high-resolution digital files suitable for large format printing in CMYK format (AI or PDF), with .5 inches of bleed space. The artwork should have continuity throughout the linear format and should not contain copyrighted images, logos, brands, or obscene, political, or harmful imagery. The City of Napa will be responsible for fabrication and installation. The selected artist will receive a $2,000 stipend.
Submissions must include a letter of interest, 1-20 images of previous work and the proposed artwork, an image list with descriptions (up to 5 sentences each), and an optional resume. Applicants must demonstrate experience executing successful 2D public art projects and the ability to collaborate with agency staff. The submission deadline is July 28, 2023. For inquiries, contact Meredith Knudsen, City of Napa Public Art Coordinator, at [email protected].
