TEMPOart Request for Qualifications 2025 Project Commission

TEMPOart commissions temporary public art that sparks dialogue, builds community, and inspires collective imagination. Each year new projects enliven Portland's public spaces with art that is free, open, and inclusive. TEMPOart seeks artists, architects, designers, and landscape architects to design and realize a temporary outdoor public work of art to begin in June 2025. The installation will be located outdoors at the plaza of City Hall on Congress Street in Portland, ME. The maximum budget is $25,000 (inclusive of artist fees and any associated travel). TEMPOart's objective is to support public art of two years duration.

Teams and collectives are invited to apply but must identify a single person in the application who will represent the work of the group. Applicants must submit a resume or CV with a link to the artist's website if applicable, photos or videos of up to 5 different previously completed pieces (maximum 3 detail shots per piece, no more than 10 photos and/or videos in total), and an Artist Statement of no more than 300 words explaining interest in the opportunity. Artists without previous outdoor public art experience of this magnitude should use the Artist Statement to describe how they would meet this opportunity and include outdoor artwork qualifications of any partners.

Eligibility is limited to New England residents. The RFQ deadline is June 16, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. MDT.
