About This Call
Telling Stories is a national open call online exhibition curated by Michelle Robinson, Artist and Curator. Art and craft are means to tell stories visually. Through mythology, fairy tales, cultural commentary, dream imagery, family history, and personal narrative, art has sought to examine the challenges and mysteries of how we live; to interpret and understand our world and share those thoughts with others. This exhibition will showcase how artists are telling stories now, from abstract and non-linear to representational and narrative.
Artwork can be any media (Drawing, Video, Painting, Sculpture, Digital, Intermedia, etc.) but should address the Telling Stories theme. 2D artworks may include screen grabs from moving imagery but will be juried as a static image. If you want the entire moving piece to be viewed, it must be submitted as a video. Work that requires specialized equipment to view will not be considered. Videos are limited to 10:00 minutes in length. Artists may submit up to 3 images for consideration for a non-refundable $15 submission fee. Up to 7 additional pieces (for a total of 10) may be presented for an additional $5 each. There are no size limitations on artworks that can be submitted.
The online exhibition runs October 22, 2022 through November 18, 2022. The Zoom Opening Reception and artist talk is scheduled for October 22, 2022 from 3-5pm PST. Accepted artists will be announced October 3, 2022. All sales will be handled through the artist. The gallery will take no commission. Awards include First place - online solo show at Shoebox Projects (2023), Second place $100, and Third place $50. Open to artists residing in the United States, age 18 and older.
