About This Call
Tell it Slant: Art with Wit is a national open call exhibition that brings together work responding to contemporary issues using humor and wit. Artists have long used comedy as a tool to critique society and an art establishment that takes itself too seriously. From the playful irreverence of Marcel Duchamp, Maurizio Cattelan and Sarah Lucas to the dark satire of Francisco Goya, Honoré Daumier and Martine Syms, artists have employed diverse forms of humor to elicit laughter while revealing cutting truths. This gallery exhibit is open to all visual mediums.
The Cade Center for Fine Arts Gallery is located on the main floor of the Cade building on the western side of AACC's Arnold campus at 101 College Parkway. The gallery features seven exhibits a year, each focused by theme or medium. The exhibit will run from November 30, 2022 through January 27, 2023 (gallery closed December 20 - January 8 for winter break). A public reception and juror talk will be held December 7, 5-7 p.m. The juror is Sarah Jesse, Director of the Academy Art Museum in Easton, Maryland.
Artists over 18 working in all media are eligible to apply. Submit up to 5 artworks with an artist statement for each work. Entry fee is $20. All accepted work must be ready to hang or display. Two-dimensional work must have braided picture wire on the back; fragile media should be under plexiglass. Installation art must be prepared by the artist or include easy-to-follow instructions. The gallery has a flat screen video and access to video equipment including a projector. Artists are responsible for paying shipping costs both to and from the gallery. Artwork must be available from November 2022 through February 2023. Drop-off is November 8 (contact to arrange time); shipped artwork must be received by November 10. Contact Teddy Johnson at [email protected] to arrange drop-off or for questions.
