About This Call
TAVERN is an exhibition of visual art running from May 5-28, 2017 produced by The Studio Door. This exhibition encourages visual artists to share artwork that celebrates beer culture. Artists are encouraged to submit unique visions such as paintings based on vintage beer advertising, photographs of beers, collages utilizing beer coasters and promotional items, assemblage incorporating beer bottles, and other original inspired works of art.
Accepted categories include fine art: painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, assemblage, collage, mixed media, fiber art, artist book, ceramics, stoneware, stained glass, and sculpture. Oversized jewelry defined as fine art is acceptable. The exhibition does not accept small jewelry, video, film, performance art, installation, or works requiring external electrical sources. Submissions must be original work. Entry fee is $35 for one artwork, $40 for two, or $45 for three. Submission deadline is March 3, 2017 at 10:59 PM PST through CAFÉ. Artists may submit 1-3 images.
Two exhibition opportunities are available: in-gallery at The Studio Door in San Diego and online-only gallery. All accepted works are eligible for Best in Show. A juror's award ribbon and certificate will be presented to three works expressing the most imaginative interpretation of the theme. One work will be designated "Best in Show" and used as the exhibition catalog cover. All selected artwork will be included in a national virtual catalog. Artists will be notified by April 7, 2017. Shipped artwork must arrive by April 28, 2017. Hand-delivery is available April 29-30, 2017. Artwork may be picked up May 28 (4-5 PM) or May 30 (noon-7 PM). Sales split 60% to artist, 40% to The Studio Door. Maximum size for 2-D work is 8 feet height by 4 feet width including frame. 3-D work must fit through an average doorway and not exceed 8 feet in height.
