About This Call
The Taos Arts Council and Town of Taos are seeking artwork from Taos County artists for a lamp post banner campaign to highlight Taos as an arts destination, celebrate local creativity, and beautify the historic district. Banners will be displayed from April 1 – October 31, 2019, throughout the Town of Taos. The competition welcomes an array of images related to any of the arts – visual art, music, writing, dance, theatre, and similar.
Entrants must be at least 18 years old and currently living and working within Taos County. Work must have been produced within the last 5 years. Each individual or artist representative may enter one piece with one image; groups may enter one collectively created piece under a collective name. All media that can be photographed and displayed visually on a banner are accepted, including painting, pottery, sculpture, printmaking, photography, projection, installation, glass, jewelry, metalwork, fiber art, and non-traditional media. The entry fee is $10.00.
Submissions will be judged by a blind jury based on aesthetic impact, diversity of medium and artist background, suitability for the medium, appropriateness for public display, and legibility for drive-by viewers and pedestrians. Selected artists will be featured on one of forty-one 30" x 60" lamp post banners or one of twenty-five 18" x 30" lamp post banners displayed around the Town of Taos. Winners will receive their banners to keep after the campaign ends. Reduced size poster reproductions of the winning banners will be installed at Taos Town Hall from May 3 – July 29, 2019. A public reception honoring selected artists is scheduled for Friday, May 3, 2019, 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm, with work available for purchase. Applicants must submit one JPG image under 5mb through the CaFE website. Selected applicants will need to submit a second high-resolution image (PSD, TIFF, JPG, or PNG format, at least 200 dpi at 15"w x 30"h) to the Taos Arts Council for printing. Winners will be notified 3-5 days after the blind jury selection.
