About This Call
Tampa International Airport is seeking visual artists for a Public Art Program with twelve opportunities throughout its facilities. The goal is to provide the traveling public with opportunities to experience artistic excellence while enhancing the airport environment and supporting cultural awareness. The airport's art collection reflects the region's natural resources and cultural heritage, celebrating Tampa Bay's legacy as the birthplace of commercial aviation.
This call is open to visual artists working in any medium with experience executing ideas from concept to completion, meeting specified budgets and timeframes, and working in the public realm with public agencies. The airport has identified twelve opportunities that can accommodate a variety of media, including free standing sculpture, wall mounted or ceiling hung art, and possibly functional elements. The total budget for all artwork is $3.5 million, with individual commissions including artist design fees, materials, fabrication, artist travel, and final installation.
The selection process is two-phase. First, a Technical Evaluation Committee will review all applications and develop a short list of qualified artists. In the second phase, qualified artists will be invited to submit proposals. Each invited artist or artist team will receive a $3,000 stipend to develop 3-D views, a maquette, photographs of a model, or other representations. The Public Art Committee will evaluate proposals and select a maximum of 12 finalists for presentation to the Airport Board for final approval and contract award. Work sample requirements: 1-10 images, 0-2 audio files, 0-2 video files.
