About This Call
The City of Tampa is seeking commissioned artists or artist teams to design and implement public art installations for two roundabouts in the Tampa Heights neighborhood. The roundabouts are located at Palm Ave and N Blvd (approximately 63' diameter) and Palm Ave and Highland Ave (50' diameter).
Commissioned artists will work with city staff and design teams, participate in community engagement, respond to design feedback, and implement approved proposals. Artists must provide signed and sealed engineered drawings, create maintenance manuals, design foundations, lighting, and landscaping, and select materials suitable for Florida's climate and proximity to brackish river water. This is a turn-key project with a total budget of $275,000 to cover design, engineering, fabrication, installation, insurance, travel, and accommodations.
Eligibility is limited to national artists or teams with demonstrated experience creating art at this scale. Applicants must provide images and details of completed projects and be capable of producing engineered drawings. After initial blind review, up to three finalists will be selected and compensated to create high-level concepts. The anticipated project schedule includes design development in Q1 2026, artwork implementation from Q2-Q4 2026, and installation completion in Q1 2027. Applicants must submit 8-10 images and up to 2 videos by October 31, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. MDT.
