About This Call
The Local Selection Committee is commissioning a photographer to document visiting artists, master printers, and students working at the new Tamarind Institute facility in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The final result will include several photos printed as large-scale banners suspended in the gallery space and a large, approximately 50" LCD screen installed on the wall that will continuously display additional photographs. Professional photographers experienced in creating photographs of people that capture the spirit of the working environment are invited to submit qualifications.
Tamarind Institute, part of UNM's College of Fine Arts, is a printmaking workshop and gallery dedicated to the preservation of fine art lithography. Since 1960, Tamarind has offered educational programs, opportunities for artists to collaborate with master printers, and local, regional, and international projects. The institute will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2010 with its move to the new facility.
This project is open to all professional photographers who are residents of New Mexico. $30,000 is available for the project, including all fees and expenses: materials, equipment costs, fees, labor, insurance, taxes, travel, installation, project plaque, and documentation. Selection criteria include professional qualifications, proven ability to undertake projects of the described scope, artistic merit, and appropriateness to project intent and site. Three to five finalists will be invited to interview and will receive a travel stipend based on distance. Submission requirements include a letter of interest or statement of qualifications, a current chronological resume or curriculum vitae, and ten images of previously completed work. Questions should be directed to Chuck Zimmer at 505-827-6490 or 800-879-4278 (in-state), or [email protected].
