About This Call
The City of Tamarac, Florida is seeking to commission an artist or artist team to create a light-based artwork for the Tamarac Community Center front entrance at 8601 W Commercial Blvd, Tamarac, FL 33321. The artwork should incorporate lights to create an interactive experience while also attracting passers-by during their commute. Three artists or artist teams will be selected as semi-finalists to develop and present design proposals, each receiving a $1,500 stipend. The winning artist will be awarded a $50,000 contract and will be responsible for the design, creation, and installation of the final work. The design must be approved by the city commission.
The artwork must be durable and require minimal ongoing maintenance, suitable for South Florida's sub-tropical climate with intense sun, heat, humidity, and seasonal heavy rain. Materials should be resistant to rust, fading, theft, and vandalism. Applicants must submit a current resume (2 pages maximum), 10 images of past light art projects, and an annotated image list. All submissions must be completed via CAFÉ at www.callforentry.org. Application deadline is Friday, October 18, 2024.
Selection criteria include artistic merit and concept engagement, style and appropriateness, technical feasibility and the artist's experience completing public art projects within timeline and budget, and safety and maintenance considerations. The Tamarac Public Art Committee will review proposals. Open to all artists nationwide with experience creating artwork incorporating lights; Florida artists are encouraged to apply. Questions should be directed to [email protected] or [email protected].
