About This Call

T. F. Green Airport, owned by the State of Rhode Island and operated by the Rhode Island Airport Corporation (RIAC), is seeking proposals for site-specific public artwork to enhance the terminal environment. The airport currently serves over 5 million passengers annually and is projected to grow to 11 million passengers by 2020. The goal of the public art project is to commission artwork that enhances the physical environment and provides an amenity for diverse groups of citizens passing through the facility, offering new visitors an engaging introduction to Rhode Island.

A total of up to $487,500 has been designated for the acquisition of interior public art. This budget is inclusive of all costs for fabrication, installation, transportation, artist fees, and site preparation. Four interior sites with seven installation points have been selected for artwork: Site 1 features eight translucent illuminated panels (47" square) above checkpoint ramps; Site 2 consists of two 70-foot walls with varying heights (12.5' to 16.5') in a bypass ramp corridor; Site 3 includes three 60-foot by 8-foot wall spaces in the central corridor; and Site 4 is a small to medium freestanding sculpture for the maintenance facility reception area. Budget allocations are: Site 1 ($43,900), Site 2 ($219,300), Site 3 ($219,300), and Site 4 ($5,000).

Proposals must be submitted online through CAFÉ by August 20, 2007, and include: current resume(s), a written proposal statement (maximum 2,000 characters) specifying site(s) and describing concept, materials, budget, and installation requirements, and six digital images of relevant work completed within the past five years with accompanying media, dimensions, title, and description. The selection panel will choose 3-5 finalists in September 2007 based on artwork quality and suitability, demonstrated ability to complete work on schedule and within budget, ability to meet ADA and safety standards, and artwork permanence and durability. Finalists will receive a $1,500 honorarium and will present full proposals in person in December 2007. RISCA will cover travel, lodging, and per diem expenses for finalist site visits and presentations.
