About This Call
Synchronica :: Framing Time will present 150 photographs made of and by young adults in the Gainesville area to document this moment in time. The exhibition is part of the 150th anniversary of the City of Gainesville. The 150 selected portraits will be exhibited at the Historic Thomas Center in summer 2019. Some projected images may be featured on public buildings during downtown nighttime events. The photos will be printed on aluminum and stored as a time capsule for future generations to view as a historical document and record of contemporary culture.
Artists born between 1998 and 2005 are eligible. Submissions may be self-portraits or portraits of others, with portrait subjects in the 14-21 age range. Photographs may include others along with young people in this age range. Both color and B&W work is welcome. Work does not need to have been completed within a specific time period. This call is local only—artists must be connected to Gainesville and surrounding areas. Submit a minimum of 3 and maximum of 8 images for jurying. A statement may be included but is not required.
Work will be judged by a three-person jury: Anne E. Gilroy (Curator, Thomas Center Galleries), Logan Marconi (Art faculty, Santa Fe College), and Carol McCusker (Curator of Photography, Samuel P. Harn Museum of Art). Final selections will be made by the curator. Work will be judged on merit with consideration given to racial, ethnic, and gender balance to represent the demographics of the Gainesville community. A free opening reception honoring the artists will be held on May 31, open to families, friends, and community members.
