About This Call
This is a national juried online competition open to North American artists 18 years and older, including both SWFPS members and non-members. Any styles or subject matter from traditional to contemporary are welcome.
Artwork Requirements: Paintings must be at least 80% soft pastel (no oil pastels) and originally created within the last three years. Work must be based exclusively on the artist's own photo reference, life set-up, or plein air experience, concept and composition. All artwork must be originally drawn and not created on top of any type of photographic image or traced image. Original artwork only—paintings done in classrooms or workshops with instructional supervision are not allowed. Paintings previously receiving major awards (Best of Show, first, second, or third place) in prior exhibits and online shows are not permitted. Paintings entered in concurrent shows are not allowed. A maximum of five images may be submitted.
Prizes: First Place $1,000, Second Place $500, Third Place $250, plus 6 Honorable Mention Awards in Cash & Prizes. Entry fees: Members $35 for first image, $5 for each additional image; Non-Members $45 for first image, $5 for each additional image. All entry fees must be paid online by the entry deadline. Members of SWFPS must be current on dues prior to entry. Accepted images must be identical to the artists' paintings, not digitally altered. Submit high-quality JPEG files at least 1500 pixels on the longest edge with a maximum file size of 30 MB. Images should be cropped to show only the artwork itself with no visible matting, frames, or background distractions, and oriented correctly. For questions about the prospectus, eligibility, or artwork requirements, contact Kris Gardner at [email protected].
