Surrealism

Surrealism challenges reality, bending the familiar into the extraordinary. Whether through dreamlike landscapes, uncanny juxtapositions, or psychological depth, submissions should defy logic and invite viewers into an alternate world. The exhibition seeks works that challenge perceptions, blur boundaries, and embrace the surreal.

Artwork submissions are limited to six original artworks per artist in the following media: drawing, mixed media, collage, printmaking, fiber art, photography, painting, digital art, and sculpture. No audio, video, or AI-generated work will be accepted. All entries must be submitted as high-resolution (1-5MB) digital JPEGs either cropped to remove background or on a black background without a mat. Entries must be original and of the artist's own execution. Artwork created under the direct supervision of an instructor is not eligible. Once submitted, artwork may not be substituted or withdrawn. All juried artwork must remain online until the end of the exhibit. Previously exhibited work at SFVACC is not eligible.

Entry fee is $40 for one artwork, with up to five additional entries at $5 each. The exhibit opens May 16, 2025 and closes June 30, 2025. Awards include Best of Show ($800), 1st Place ($400), 2nd Place ($300), and up to four Honorable Mentions. The juror is Seta Injeyan, a contemporary surrealist painter. Acceptance notifications will be sent by April 20, 2025, with award winners notified April 21, 2025. The virtual exhibit may be viewed on the SFVACC website, and will remain on the Archived Exhibits page indefinitely. All sales are handled directly between artist and buyer with no commission to SFVACC.
