Surreal Salon 18 Call to Artists

Surreal Salon 18 is the annual exhibition celebrating the pop-surrealist/lowbrow movement, returning to Baton Rouge Gallery for its 18th year in January 2026. Held in partnership with the LSU School of Art, the exhibition will feature work from dozens of artists selected through a blind jurying process by Special Guest Juror SWOON. The exhibition showcases paintings, photography, ceramics, textiles, mixed media works, and more from artists across the United States and internationally.

Works will be judged anonymously on conceptual and aesthetic quality, feasibility of display, and overall artistic merit. The exhibition features $2,000 in cash prizes: Best in Show ($1,000), Second Place ($600), and Third Place ($400). The Best in Show work will be profiled in an online editorial on juxtapoz.com. Artists may submit up to three works. The entry fee is $35. All artwork must be physical, tangible, and nonperishable, ready for professional gallery display. Two-dimensional works must be ready to hang; no bull clips, clip frames, magnets, push-pins, or poster frames are accepted.

Submission deadline is November 8, 2025 at midnight CST. Artists will be notified by November 18, 2025. Selected works must be delivered to the gallery by December 21, 2025 at 6 pm. The exhibition runs January 2-24, 2026. Artwork pickup is January 27 - February 14, 2026 (Tuesday-Sunday). All artwork must be available for purchase, and artists receive a 50% commission on sales. Shipping to and from the gallery is the artist's responsibility. While works are on gallery premises, they will be insured for full declared value. All artists over 18 worldwide are eligible to apply.
