Surface Design Association Members Catalog & Exhibition: Materialities Contemporary Textile Art

The Surface Design Association invites current SDA members to submit work for the Members Catalog & Exhibition and Materialities Contemporary Textile Art exhibition. The goal is to showcase the breadth and depth of contemporary fiber arts, with makers encouraged to submit work of any size or format that demonstrates innovative use of textile media.

Any textile technique or material is acceptable, including nontraditional materials and time arts such as video and sound. Works must be completed on or after January 1, 2013. Up to 3 pieces per artist may be entered. Work executed under classroom or educational guidance is not eligible. A single juror/curator will select work for inclusion in a comprehensive print catalog with full images, artist statements, and essays. A group of selected works will be installed in the Materialities exhibition at Arrowmont (August 27 – October 31, 2015). Members whose work is selected will receive one complimentary print copy of the catalog.

Entry fees are $40 for SDA member non-students and $20 for SDA student members. Submissions require 2-6 images (JPEG format, minimum 1920 pixels on longest side, 72 ppi/dpi, 5 MB maximum), and may include up to 3 audio files and 3 video files. Each submission must include a brief artist statement (1000 character maximum) and retail price or insurance value. Awards include Best in Show ($700), 2nd Place ($400), 3rd Place ($300), Honorable Mention ($100), and an SDA Award of Excellence (one year SDA membership). Notification of acceptance is June 1, 2015.
