About This Call
The Surface Design Association invites workshop proposals for the 17th International Surface Design Association Conference, In-ter-face: Participate. Illuminate. Celebrate., taking place June 6–9, 2013 in San Antonio, Texas. Pre-conference workshops will be held June 1–5, 2013, and post-conference workshops June 10–14, 2013.
Workshop proposals may range from one-half day to five days in length. Proposals must include contact information, workshop title, student level, length, a summary (80 words maximum), presenter bio (80 words maximum), detailed description (two pages maximum), six to eight images typical of the work to be featured, an image list with full attribution and photography credits, a résumé emphasizing teaching experience (two pages maximum), and names and contact information for up to three references. Digital submission through CaFÉ at www.callforentry.org is required, with a $15.00 processing fee per application. The deadline for all submissions is March 1, 2012, with notification by May 1, 2012.
Honoraria and expenses vary by workshop length. A 5-day workshop includes a $1,125 honorarium, conference fee waiver, six per diems at $65 each, and travel allowance (capped at $100 for locations within 100 miles or $500 for locations beyond 100 miles). Shorter workshops receive proportionally reduced compensation. Facilities available include surface design studios, metals studios, papermaking studios, sculpture studios, drawing and painting studios, sewing studios, and computer labs. The workshop day runs 9:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m., with possible extension at instructor discretion. Successful workshops typically focus on one particular technique, offer hands-on participation, and align with available facilities. Supply fees will be locked in on June 1, 2012, and instructors are responsible for providing all necessary supplies and arranging their own lodging.
