Surface Design Association Call for Presentation Proposals

The Surface Design Association invites presentation and demonstration proposals for the 17th International Surface Design Association Conference, themed "In•ter•face: Participate. Illuminate. Celebrate." The conference will be held June 6–9, 2013 in San Antonio, Texas.

Proposals are open January 17, 2012 and close March 1, 2012 at 12:00 midnight Mountain Standard Time. Digital submission through CaFÉ (Call for Entries) at http://www.callforentry.org/ is required. There is a $15.00 processing fee for each application. Applicants may submit up to 5 applications. Submissions must include contact information, presentation title, summary (80 words maximum), presenter bio (80 words maximum), detailed description (one page maximum), 3-8 images formatted to CaFÉ specifications, and a résumé emphasizing presentation or demonstration experience (two pages maximum).

Candidates may propose one of three formats: a 45-minute presentation with 15-minute Q&A, a 60-minute hands-on demonstration with 15-minute Q&A, or a 15-minute student presentation (undergraduate or graduate students only). Presentations will be grouped with two others, with Q&A held after all three are completed. Selected presenters will be asked to allow their presentations to be recorded for podcast on the SDA website. Honoraria include $225 for 45-minute presentations and 60-minute demonstrations, $100 for student presentations, conference fee waivers, per diem allowances of $65 per day of service plus one travel day, and travel allowances up to $100 (within 100-mile radius) or $500 (beyond 100 miles). Demonstrations receive an additional $25 shipping allowance. Notification of acceptance will be provided by May 1, 2012. The conference particularly welcomes proposals relating to the theme, public art/public space, interdisciplinarity, and international perspectives.
