Surface Design Association Call for Exhibition Proposals

The Surface Design Association invites exhibition proposals for the 17th International Surface Design Association Conference, themed "in•ter•face: Participate. Illuminate. Celebrate." The conference takes place June 6–9, 2013 in San Antonio, Texas. Exhibition dates will be arranged with individual galleries in the San Antonio area and will encompass the conference dates.

Proposals must be submitted digitally through CaFÉ (Call for Entries) at www.callforentry.org by March 1, 2012 at 12:00 midnight Mountain Standard Time. A $15.00 processing fee applies per application. Submissions must include: contact information, exhibition title, condensed description (80 words maximum), statement of rationale (one page maximum), artist bio (80 words maximum), 8 images representative of the body of work formatted to CaFÉ specifications, numbered image list with full attribution and photography credits, space requirements, list of all artists for group exhibitions, and artist or curator résumé (two pages maximum). The Exhibitions Committee may request names and contact information for up to three references.

A jury will select exhibition finalists. Galleries in the San Antonio area will determine final selection of exhibitions based on what they deem appropriate for their spaces. For selected exhibitions, SDA will provide $100 to the artist and $200 to galleries to defray costs, with all other expenses covered by the artist and galleries by mutual agreement. Selected artists will receive listing in the San Antonio gallery guides, press releases, and listing in the SDA conference program, gallery guide, and website. Artists must be present for installation or delegate a representative, and are responsible for all exhibition aspects including shipping, postcards, insurance, and receptions. Notification of acceptance will be provided by May 1, 2012.
