About This Call

Surface is a national juried exhibition highlighting the use of textures and patterns in artwork from across the country. The d'Art Center seeks to exhibit artwork that emphasizes texture and patterns, allowing patrons to "feel" those textures with their eyes and get lost in the patterns of the work. This exhibition is open to all functional, non-functional, 2D, 3D, fine art, and fine craft in all mediums and all styles. The exhibition will be held in-person and also featured digitally on d'Art Center's archive site.

The exhibition will be co-curated by gallery manager Amanda Bradley and exhibition juror artist Jorge A. Saenz. The d'Art Center's Main Gallery is located at 740 Boush St. in Norfolk, Virginia, in the NEON District. Exhibition dates are Saturday, May 28, 2022 through Saturday, June 25, 2022, with a reception on Friday, June 3, 2022 from 5:30-7:30pm. Notifications of acceptance will be sent by email by 5pm on Monday, May 9, 2022. Accepted works must arrive by 5pm on May 22, 2022.

Entry fee is $35.00 for 3 works (one image per submission), with $5 for each additional submission up to a maximum of 10 works. Artists must submit 3-10 images. Awards include 1st Place ($500), 2nd Place ($300), and 3rd Place ($150). The d'Art Center takes a 60/40 commission on sales (60% artist, 40% d'Art Center). Eligibility is open to all artists 18 or older residing in the United States. All work must be original, created without instructor or kit assistance, and produced within the last eight years. Works cannot exceed 50 pounds or be longer than 60 inches in their longest dimension. All work must be hang/presentation ready. Artists are responsible for shipping costs to and from the gallery and must provide pre-paid return labels through UPS or FedEx.
