Surf Art

This is a call for Southern California and Baja California-based artists who surf or are surf industry professionals to submit entries for Surf Art, a joint exhibition at California Surf Museum (CSM) and Oceanside Museum of Art (OMA). The exhibition explores art that has emerged from surf-culture lifestyle and surfing's influence on artists. Artists who surf may explore subjects outside of surfing and surf culture. The exhibition will feature a variety of media, including traditional art making methods, resin, murals, surfboards, graphic art, sculpture, and fabric. Artists may be selected to show work at OMA and/or CSM, with jurors determining the location where selected works are presented.

Eligibility requires artists to be based in Southern California or Baja California (defined by Tijuana to the south and Santa Barbara to the north, including all inland counties) and demonstrate a connection to surfing or the surf industry in their artist statement and/or CV. The entry fee is $25 to submit up to 20 artworks. Scholarships are available; contact [email protected] for consideration.

Work samples may include 1-20 images, up to 2 audio files, and up to 2 video files. Artwork must be original works only; no photography, giclees, reproductions, videos, or projections. Two- or three-dimensional work is accepted with a maximum of 120" in any direction and 100 lbs. Works on paper must be framed; edges of unframed two-dimensional artwork must be finished or gallery wrapped. Tasteful nudity is acceptable. Works may be wall mounted, ceiling mounted, free standing, or pedestal standing. Jury dates: 6/10/25 - 7/7/25. Notifications of selected artworks: on or before 7/11/25. Art drop-off/delivery to OMA: 8/8-8/11/25, 12:00-3:00pm. Exhibition dates: 8/23/25 - 2/1/26 at OMA; 9/13/25 - 2/1/26 at CSM. Public reception at OMA: 8/23/25, 5:00-7:00pm. Public reception at CSM: 10/3/25, 5:00-8:00pm.
