About This Call
ArtsinStark and The Pro Football Hall of Fame are seeking an artist to create a mural celebrating Super Bowl III as part of The ELEVEN, a public art project celebrating the greatest moments in professional football history. The mural will be installed on the side of the Cultural Center for the Arts at 1001 Market Avenue North in Canton, OH.
Eligibility: Any artist over 18 years of age from Stark County, Ohio. Commission: $40,000 total ($5,000 for artwork, $35,000 for installation). If the winning artist is not a muralist, ArtsinStark will hire a mural team for installation. The top five runners-up will each receive $500 prizes. Entry fee: $10. Application deadline: Monday, April 10, 2017 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Materials to submit: one-page resume, images of at least three previous works, and a one-page concept for Super Bowl III. Winner will be announced Monday, April 24, 2017. The artist will have 30 days from contract signing to complete finished artwork, with the mural to be painted and installed by Monday, July 31, 2017. The mural will be unveiled Friday, August 4 at the 2017 Pro Football Hall of Fame's Enshrinement Festival in Canton, Ohio.
Super Bowl III recognizes Joe Namath's prediction and guarantee of victory for the New York Jets over the heavily favored Baltimore Colts, resulting in a 16-7 upset victory. Selection criteria: Does it capture the moment? Is the art of the highest quality? Is the concept compelling enough to attract visitors regardless of football interest?
