About This Call

SUNY Oneonta invites proposal submissions for eight-week residencies from visual artists and designers working in any medium. Preference will be given to artists working in mediums that further enhance the curriculum, such as printmaking, bookmaking, drawing, fiber, VR, AR, AI, and complementary or multi-media formats.

The Artist-in-Residence program provides residents with dedicated time, specialized facilities, and access to a broad campus community. Support includes a resident stipend of $8,000 for the eight-week stay, a housing allowance (up to $600 per 4-week period, deducted from stipend), and a project budget of up to $1,000 for materials. Housing options with Wi-Fi and kitchen facilities are available on or near campus. Residents will have access to extensive studio facilities including computer labs with 60 Mac computers, Cintiq displays, 3D printers, laser engravers, darkroom, digital studios, printmaking studio, sculpture suite, ceramics studio, and painting studio. Staff and student worker support will be provided based on the project scope.

Residents are expected to exhibit, publish, or present work completed during the residency by the end of the Spring 2024 semester. Exhibition space may be available at the conclusion of the residency period, dependent on gallery availability and project scope. Residents will engage in workshops, presentations, and discussions with students, faculty, and the Oneonta community. Applications must include an artist statement, CV, ten examples of recent work from the past five years, project description (max. 500 words), plan for using available facilities (max. 500 words), and projected budget. Applicants currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate programs are not eligible. International artists cannot be sponsored for visas. Applicants will be notified of their status in late September 2023.
