About This Call
The City of Sunrise, Florida is seeking to commission an Artist or Artist team to create one or possibly two sculptures of significant size and quality to be located on the Flamingo Linear Park at two locations: Flamingo Road and Panther Parkway (Sculpture 1) and Flamingo Road and Oakland Park Boulevard (Sculpture 2) in Sunrise, Florida. The sculptures should reflect the spirit of Sunrise and be impactful to pedestrians and passerby traffic both day and night at this high traffic roadway.
The Call to Artists will be conducted in two phases. In the first phase, up to three Artists per sculpture will be shortlisted by the Selection Committee based on experience, credentials, style and previous work. In the second phase, each shortlisted Artist will receive a $1,500 stipend for the development of a detailed proposal. The selected Artist(s) will enter into an agreement with the City in an amount not to exceed $125,000 per sculpture. One Artist may be selected for both sculptures or different Artists may be selected for each sculpture. The total budget is $250,000 for two sculptures and includes all costs such as research, design, materials, permitting, fabrication, installation, photography, insurance, travel, sales taxes, lighting design, labor, structural engineering, and transportation.
Sculptures must be 20 to 25 feet in height with vertical orientation and maintain a minimum of 3 feet access on all sides. They must be durable and require minimal ongoing maintenance, designed to withstand South Florida's subtropical climate with intense sun and seasonal heavy rain. Sculptures must be self-supporting and designed in accordance with the Florida Building Code and Sunrise Code. The City prefers sculptures with unique elements, significant height, vibrant colors that stand out, and the ability to be lit from within. Water features are not permitted. The application deadline is March 25, 2022 and is open to all Professional Artists nationwide with experience working with public agencies and professional engineers. Submissions must be made via CAFÉ at www.callforentry.org.
