About This Call
The Arts Council offers a summer artist residency in College Station, Texas from mid-May through mid-August 2020. Eligible applicants must be current students or recent graduates (within one year) of visual arts programs at community colleges or universities, concentrating in 2-D mixed media, 3-D mixed media, drawing, painting, photography, sculpture, or watercolor. Applicants must be available to live in College Station for the full residency period, have a reliable vehicle with insurance, and be able to pass a background check.
The residency includes an unfurnished two-bedroom apartment rent-free (utilities, cable, and internet are the artist's responsibility), access to studio space, a $500 stipend for supplies and living expenses, and mentorship sessions with area artists on exhibition installation, sales, financial management, and continuing education. The artist will have a solo show and opening at a local gallery organized and funded by The Arts Council. No more than 25 percent of the exhibition may consist of work created prior to the residency. The artist is responsible for apartment upkeep and deposit, studio facility compliance, and installation and deinstallation of their exhibition. Any artwork sold in the show will be split 70% to the artist and 30% to The Arts Council, with an additional 2.5% deducted for credit card transactions.
Entry fee is $10.00. Application deadline is March 1, 2020 at 11:59 p.m. MST. Applicants must submit 3-6 images and up to 3 videos of their work. Final applicants will be selected for interviews (via phone or webcam) with the selection committee, with final decisions made by April 1, 2020. Contact [email protected] with questions.
