About This Call
The Arts Council offers a summer artist residency in College Station, Texas from mid-May through mid-August 2019. Eligible applicants are current students or recent graduates (within one year) of visual arts programs at community colleges or universities, concentrating in 2-D mixed media, 3-D mixed media, drawing, painting, photography, sculpture, or watercolor.
The residency provides an unfurnished two-bedroom apartment rent-free (artist responsible for utilities and deposit), access to studio space, a $500 stipend for supplies and living expenses, mentorship sessions with area artists, and a solo exhibition at a local gallery. Artists must live in College Station for the duration, have a reliable vehicle and insurance, and pass a background check. No travel costs are provided. The artist is responsible for apartment upkeep, studio facility compliance, and exhibition installation/deinstallation. No more than 25 percent of the exhibition may consist of work created prior to the residency. Up to three mentorship meetings are available covering exhibition installation, sales, financial management, and continuing education. For pieces sold in the exhibition, the artist receives 70 percent and The Arts Council receives 30 percent (2.5 percent deducted for credit card transactions).
Application deadline is April 15, 2019 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Applicants must submit 3-6 images, and may optionally submit up to 3 audio files and 3 video files. Final applicants will be selected for interviews (phone or webcam) with the selection committee. Final decisions will be made no later than April 22, 2019. Contact Amy Salvaggio at [email protected] with questions.
